About Us
Our Story
Clear Vue Trauma Counselling has over nine years of experience working with individuals presenting with psychological distress.
My name is Debra. I am the co-founder of Clear Vue Trauma Counselling.
Life is hard for many of us and having a safe space to talk and be listened to, without fear of judgement or others opinions being foisted on us, is paramount to our health and well-being. Talking therapies are more relevant today than ever, as many of us are isolated and struggle in our relationships and lives. All types of mental health issues can be helped with psychotherapy. Medication is not the answer for many of us, it doesn’t help us to understand and change our feelings and responses to others. Please call for a free initial telephone consultation
I specialise in women’s issues and trauma. I have worked with drug and alcohol misuse for 3 years now, however , this encompasses many mental health conditions, domestic abuse, bullying, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, food issues and others. I work with different types of therapy , depending on my client’s issues.
I understand how hard it is to take that initial step and reach out for help, I would encourage you, though, to take that step and let me help you to transform your life for the better.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from distressing or overwhelming experiences. While it was originally developed to treat trauma and PTSD, EMDR has also been shown to be beneficial for people struggling with addiction, depression, and anxiety.
How EMDR Helps
When painful or overwhelming events happen, the brain doesn’t always process them fully. These memories can stay “stuck,” and may continue to trigger distress in the present, leading to symptoms such as flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, strong emotions, or unhelpful coping strategies.
EMDR uses a Structured process, including bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, sounds, or taps), to help the brain reprocess these memories. The experiences don’t disappear, but they lose their intensity and no longer feel as
overwhelming. This allows people to move forward with a greater sense of freedom and resilience.
EMDR Can Support With:
- Trauma & PTSD/cPTSD – releasing the lasting impact of difficult or traumatic events
- Addiction – addressing the underlying pain and triggers that can drive addictive behaviours
- Depression – working through negative experiences that contribute to low mood or self-belief
- Anxiety – reducing the emotional charge of past experiences that fuel worry and fear
What to Expect
EMDR is not About reliving every detail of the past, but about helping your mind process it differently. Therapy is always paced carefully to ensure safety and comfort, and many people find that EMDR brings relief more quickly than traditional
talking therapies.
Healing from Trauma with IFS-Informed EMDR
Experiencing trauma can leave lasting effects on how we think, feel, and respond to the world around us. Many people describe feeling stuck in painful memories, struggling with anxiety, shame, or low self-worth, or finding themselves
triggered in ways they don’t fully understand.
Two powerful approaches to trauma therapy are Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). When combined, they provide a compassionate and highly effective way of working
through trauma.
IFS-Informed EMDR
By integrating these two approaches, I offer IFS-informed EMDR – a gentle, person-centred way of working with trauma. This means that during EMDR, I use an IFS lens to ensure that all of your parts feel safe and respected throughout the process.
This approach is particularly helpful if:
- You have experienced complex or repeated trauma
- You sometimes feel conflicted or “stuck” when trying to heal
- You notice different parts of yourself reacting in different ways to therapy
- You want a compassionate approach that values all aspects of who you are
What to Expect
In our work Together, I will guide you at your own pace, ensuring that the process feels Safe and supportive. By combining EMDR with IFS principles, we can help release the emotional weight of traumatic experiences while strengthening inner resources, self-compassion, and resilience.
Understanding ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults. It is characterised by difficulties with attention, concentration, organisation, and impulse control. Some people may also experience restlessness and a constant need to be active.
ADHD is not simply about being “distracted” or “hyperactive.” It can significantly affect many areas of life, including work, education, relationships, and self-esteem. When properly recognised and managed, however, people with ADHD can learn strategies that help them thrive and use their strengths effectively.
Common Signs of ADHD
- Struggling to sustain focus or becoming easily distracted
- Difficulty organising tasks or managing time
- Forgetfulness and misplacing things often
- Restlessness or finding it hard to sit still
- Acting impulsively or speaking without thinking
- Feeling overwhelmed by tasks or responsibilities
Assessment and Diagnosis
I offer comprehensive ADHD assessments to help clarify whether your difficulties are linked to ADHD or another condition. A thorough assessment includes a detailed clinical Interview, questionnaires, and where helpful, input from family or school/work. Understanding your experiences in context is essential before making a Diagnosis.
Treatment And Support with CBT
If ADHD is Identified, I can provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tailored to your needs. Unlike medication, which primarily targets symptoms, CBT equips you with practical skills and coping strategies to manage everyday
challenges.
CBT for ADHD may include:
- Developing tools to improve organisation, planning, and time management
- Building strategies to reduce procrastination and increase productivity
- Learning ways to regulate emotions and reduce frustration
- Improving focus and managingdistractions
- Addressing low self-esteem, stress, or anxiety that often accompany ADHD
With the right support, people with ADHD can make lasting changes, feel more in control, and build confidence in daily life.
Flash Trauma Therapy (Flash Technique) in the UK: A Gentle Way to Heal Trauma
If you are looking for a gentle yet effective way to overcome the impact of trauma, Flash Trauma Therapy – also known as the Flash Technique – may be the right approach for you. Unlike traditional trauma
treatments, Flash Trauma Therapy allows you to reduce the distress linked to painful memories without having to relive or describe them in detail.
What is Flash Trauma Therapy?
Flash Trauma Therapy (Flash Technique) is a modern approach to trauma treatment that is gaining recognition across the UK and worldwide. It was developed to help people process disturbing or traumatic memories in a calmnd controlled way.
Unlike some other therapies, Flash Trauma Therapy does not require you to talk extensively about your past or re-experience your trauma. Instead, the memory is processed “in the background,” while you focus on positive and engaging thoughts.
How Does Flash Trauma Therapy Work?
During a session, a trained therapist will guide you to:
- Bring the distressing memory briefly to mind (without going into detail).
- Shift your attention to something positive, enjoyable, or calming (such as a safe place, favourite hobby, or soothing memory).
- Repeat this gentle process, which allows the traumatic memory to be reprocessed without
emotional overwhelm.
Many clients are surprised at how quickly the emotional intensity reduces. For some, relief comes within just a few sessions.
Benefits of Flash Trauma Therapy
- Works for PTSD, phobias, anxiety, and other trauma-related difficulties.
- No need to disclose all the details of your experience.
- Gentle and respectful – suitable if traditional trauma therapy feels overwhelming.
- Can be used alongside EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)or other therapeutic approaches.
- Helps restore a sense of calm, safety, and control.
Who Can Benefit?
Flash Trauma Therapy in the UK is particularly helpful for people who:
- Struggle with traumatic memories but feel unable to talk about them.
- Experience PTSD symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, or anxiety.
- Want a gentle trauma therapy that feels safe and manageable.
- Have tried other approaches but need a less confrontational method.
What to Expect in a Session
In a typical Flash Trauma Therapy session, you will not be asked to describe your trauma in detail. Instead, your therapist will gently guide you through focusing on a memory for just a moment, then shifting to a
positive and calming focus. This back-and-forth process reduces the memory’s power, often leaving clients feeling lighter and more at peace.
Are you experiencing symptoms consistant with ADHD, depression, emotion disregulation PTSD, cPTSD, dissociation, social anxiety, OCD, agoraphobia, specific phobias or excessive and uncontrollable worry?
