Healing from Trauma with IFS-Informed EMDR
Experiencing trauma can leave lasting effects on how we think, feel, and respond to the world around us. Many people describe feeling stuck in painful memories, struggling with anxiety, shame, or low self-worth, or finding themselves triggered in ways they don’t fully understand.
Two powerful approaches to trauma therapy are Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). When combined, they provide a compassionate and highly effective way of working through trauma.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a structured therapy that helps the brain to reprocess traumatic or overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as raw, painful, or “stuck in the present.” Using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, sounds, or taps), EMDR supports the mind in processing memories in a safe and adaptive way.
What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic model that recognises that we all have different “parts” of ourselves. Some parts carry pain from the past, while others try to protect us by keeping difficult feelings pushed away. IFS helps us approach these parts with curiosity and compassion, so that healing can take place.
IFS-Informed EMDR
By integrating these two approaches, I offer IFS-informed EMDR – a gentle, person-centred way of working with trauma. This means that during EMDR, I use an IFS lens to ensure that all of your parts feel safe and respected throughout the process.
This approach is particularly helpful if:
- You have experienced complex or repeated trauma
- You sometimes feel conflicted or “stuck” when trying to heal
- You notice different parts of yourself reacting in different ways to therapy
- You want a compassionate approach that values all aspects of who you are
What to Expect
In our work together, I will guide you at your own pace, ensuring that the process feels safe and supportive. By combining EMDR with IFS principles, we can help release the emotional weight of traumatic experiences while strengthening inner resources, self-compassion, and resilience.
✨ Trauma does not define you. Healing is possible.
